Discussion- Exam Paper

The Journey-
This question was one that I found really interesting, to be able to convey something in a photo format that initially made me think of moving and travelling. A couple of ideas came to mind for what I would be able to shoot if I were to chose this question, for example photograph models holding suitcases as this is a clear indication for when someone is about to go on a journey. However after looking further into this theme and other photographers who often photograph in the style of a journey, my initial ideas have evolved and became substantially better. I feel that this would be an interesting and exciting question to pursue in photographing.

Dramatic Images-
I didn't really understand what this meant when we first started talking about it in class however after looking at some dramatic images already taken by photographers I now understand more about the question and what its asking me to do. Even though I feel I know more about what dramatic images may include its not really a subject area that excites me, also I haven't had many ideas about what I would personally be able to photograph to get the best possible images.

Water-
This subject was one that a lot of my peers seemed interested in, as well as myself. The photos that we looked at in relation to this theme were beautiful and created the feeling that choosing this as my subject choice could lead to something that I really felt passionate about photographing. However, after a conversation with the class I realised that the possibility of being close to places such as beaches, harbours and lakes is less than a possibility for me due to the area I live in. Which would mean that the array in my work would be minimal and could lead to loss of interest in the project.

People and Possessions-
Whilst reading through the list of subjects this particular theme was one that I was instantly interested in, for the reason that there were so many different ideas that I could follow in relation to the subject. A few other people seemed interested in this theme in my class and after going through a variety of photographers who have professionalised in this area, it became clear that this could be a really good choice for myself and others to choose.

Mixed media-
The discussion on this topic was short and I think that this was because not many of us truly understood what was being asked for us to produce to show mixed media. We were shown images that relate to mixed media photography and even after talking through it as a class and being shown examples I still had no original ideas or thoughts about what I could produce that would be good enough or even last throughout ten photo shoots. I also got the feeling that many of my classmates were slightly confused as to how this theme could have been interpreted.

Performing arts-
The class talked a lot about what could be photographed if they would be choosing this as their question, for example- dancers, live performances, masks etc. both in and out of the studio. Personally, I had a few ideas myself however I wasn't completely interested in the overall project theme, it didn't excite me as much as other questions had.

Patterns-
Firstly we were shown images previously photographer by photographers on the subject and then we discussed whether we would be open to the idea of choosing it. Many of us said that because we have already had to photograph patterns as a smaller project for our first year that we new we do not think that it would be something in which we could progress and make better. I'm not interested in taking images myself relating to patterns and I don't think that my work would convey a good enough example of how my own work would develop.

Issues and Observations-
A couple of people in the class talked about how this theme was connected to their first unit and how they would want to lead down a different path on their current unit. I however had not already done any work along this idea and for that reason it was a good choice for as a possibility. I had many of my own ideas and collected a few more after discussing further with my peers and once we had looked at some examples.
